Reading: 学生写信提议在lobby offine art building 加一个smallcoffee shop
A student wrote a proposal to the universitysuggesting that the university should think about adding a coffee shop to thelobby of the fine arts building because there’s no such a place for students tobuy something to drink or eat between classes, and it can provide anopportunity for other students to notice the art works that fine arts studentsmade in the lobby. The student in the conversation thinks it's a good idea.First, it’s a ten minutes walking from the buildings to student center, wherehas a coffee shop. It takes too long for students to walk between classes.Second, not many students know about the art works displayed in the lobby, soadding a coffee shop there can encourage more students to stop by.
8 Task 3
According to the reading passage, the Fine Arts department will ask a few of the university's art students to give art lessons to children at Thompson School. In the listening passage, the man thinks teaching children is a good opportunity for the following reasons. First, when he was a kid, he didn't have a chance to learn parinting. So he is glad to see that these children get the opportunity to learn. Second, he thinks he can get teaching experience from doing this because he is studying education. Therefore, he thinks this is a good chance to practice his teaching skills.
9 Task 3
Reading: letter建议学校禁止在学校中心骑自行车，尤其在楼与楼之间，因为很窄（sidewalkis narrow）国外艺术学校留学，对行人很不安全，如果发现要罚款。
According to the reading material, a studentproposes to forbid riding bikes on campus particularly among buildings becausethe sidewalks on campus are narrow and thus cycling could be dangerous. Thestudent also suggests the university to hire some security guards to checkwhether any students break the rule and impose a fine. The woman holds anegative view toward the proposal. First, she thinks cycling is safe becauseit's not too fast and doesn’t injure others normally. Also, students who ridebikes are responsible and careful. Furthermore, hiring some security guards forchecking will be a waste of time and resources.
10 Task 4
Reading: emotional reasoning :如果人们对发生的事情有负面感觉，会影响人们对事情的准确判断。人们会不自觉地找寻证据去证明这种感觉。
The professor talks about a psychologicalconcept called emotional reasoning, which means when people have negativefeelings about something, it will influence their attitude toward the event.They tend to look for evidences to support their negative feelings. Theprofessor used his own example to illustrate. When he first joined the psychologylab, he was not invited to the gatherings among co-workers. He thought he wasnot welcomed. This is his negative feeling. From then on, he searched forevidences that support his feeling. It turned out that he was not invited onlybecause he was new and not familiar with the rest of the co-workers. Aftercommunicating with his co-workers, he realized the real reason and was invitedto the gatherings.
11 Task 4
Reading: impact of bias:人们会错误地以为悲伤或者开心的情绪会一直持续下去。其实都是判断失误。但是发生其他的事情的话这种情绪就不在了。
In the lecture, the professor introduces aconcept called the impact of bias. It is a psychological phenomenon that whenpeople have inaccurate expectations of the impact that a particular event willhave on them, both the intensity and length of the emotion will last. But otherevents will help people to recover. The professor gives an example of hisdaughter. His daughter wanted to apply to a university since her best friendsapplied too, and the university had a great education program. However, she wasnot admitted by the university, so she thought her life was ruined. She wasvery upset about the result and she believed that she would be upset for a longtime. On the contrary, she chose another school and it has many different kindsof activities. She then forgot whole thing and moved on.
12 Task 4

Human commensalism refers to a biologicalphenomenon that animals are able to adapt to the environment with the existenceof human and advantage of human activities at the same time. The professormentioned two examples of birds. The first kind of birds isdove, and this kindlives in the campus buildings instead of nests built by natural materials. Theycan save a lot of energy by doing so. Also, it’s safe to raise their kids overthere. Another kind is also about doves. This group of doves dines around thecampus garbage. They consume the easy food, which is the human food remains inorder to get enough nutrition. Furthermore, students on campus feed them withmeat and vegetables from time to time.
13 Task 5
The woman in the conversation has encountereda problem that her landlord just told her that the building she lives in hasbeen sold out, so she needs to move out in a few days. There are two solutionsfor her. First, she can stay with her friend, Sarah. The second solution is tomove to the apartment that she looked last weekend. I would recommend her tochoose the former one. By doing this, she can have more time to look for abetter place to stay. If she moves to the apartment that she looked before, itwill take her a long time to go back and forth between the apartment andcampus. Although it will be a little bit inconvenient since she has to move allher stuff to Sarah’s place, she only stays there a short period time.
14 Task 5
The man in the conversation is currentlyfacing a dilemma that his band is going to hold a concert next weekend, but oneof the member, Bob, cannot go with them because he will have a job interview atthat time, and Bob has solo parts. There are two possible solutions. First ofall, he can postpone the concert. Secondly, they can perform without Bob and heneeds to practice Bob’s part. I would recommend him to choose the first.Although there won’t be a lot of audience because of final exams, theperformance will be better with all members there. If he chooses to performwithout Bob, the speaker will have to practice Bob’s part in only two weeks,which is too short that the result may not be as good as performing with Bob.
